San Francisco / Los Angeles to London and Scotland from $540 in November

A few months ago my girlfriend and I were in Ireland and headed to the UK to visit friends there. Just a week before we showed up, the Brits voted for Brexit and the pound took a dive, which was great news for our wallets.

The pound is still really weak, so now is an excellent time to visit the UK from the USA. You can get there from Los Angeles for $540 or from San Francisco from $620. These fares give you a little bit of everything: 4-5 nights in London, a high speed rail trip up to historic, lively Edinburgh, and from there it’s up to you to figure out how to get to Inverness, the northernmost major city in Scotland.

Depending on your budget — and how comfortable you are driving on the left side of the road — the best way to go from Edinburgh to Inverness is by renting a car and driving through Scotland’s breath-taking highlands. That way you can stop at some of the best whiskey distilleries in the world or drive one of the world’s most beautiful coastal routes, the North Coast 500.

San Francisco:

Nov 15 flight on Norwegian to London Gatwick for $219.                                                               Nov 19 rail service from London to Edinburgh for $40.
Nov 24 flight on EasyJet from Inverness to London Gatwick for $22.                                       Nov 24 flight on WOW from London Gatwick to San Francisco for $340.

Los Angeles:

Nov 3-15 r/t flight on WOW to London Gatwick for $485.                                                                 Nov 8 rail service from London to Edinburgh for $33.                                                                           Nov 15 flight on EasyJet from Inverness to London Gatwick for $22.
